Fileutils / Coreutils

Reported by: wes@… Owned by: lfs-book@…
Priority: lowest Milestone:
Component: Book Version: 4.1
Severity: minor Keywords:

Description

Version 4.1 of the instructions list as one of the components to be downloaded the Fileutils pack. This has been merged with two other sets to form the GNU Coreutils.

Replacing:

Fileutils (4.1) - 1,770 KB: http://freshmeat.net/projects/gnufileutils/

is: CoreUtils (5.0) - 5,880 KB: http://freshmeat.net/projects/coreutils/?topic_id=864%2C861

That is, at least as far as I can tell, Fileutils has been deprecated and is no longer available on its own except from FTP servers that have not updated their mirrors. This is as of (on Freshmeat) August 12th.

From site: GNU Coreutils are a set of basic file, shell, and text manipulation utilities for the GNU operating system that are expected to exist on every operating system. Previously, they were offered as three individual packages: fileutils, sh-utils, and textutils.

Cheers!

Version 4.1 is still available at: http://www.gnu.org/directory/fileutils.html (version released on 2001-04-03) But it is deprecated.
