Probably needs a patch, it won't compile with default SVN instructions (minus the 3.0 patches).

A test compile with an installed readline-5.0 failed for me (missing symbol),

but installing readline-5.1 and linking agaisnt that built fine.

Yes, that compiled too (didn't try using it, because the books use an installed readline).

Yup, bash compiles fine now with readline-5.1. When I wrote the bug readline-5.1 wasn't on the gnu site...
