Shadow is installed after Coreutils and it would overwrite it. But if you only update Coreutils the wrong man page would be have installed.

This seems to have something to do with the coreutils build system. The LFS Coreutils-suppress-uptime-su-kill patch disables the installation of the su program, but allows to be compiled so that it can be used for the testsuite. However, I just tried removing the references to the su man page, and had problems in the test suite. Apparently the coreutils build does a bunch of checks to make sure all programs that are compiled also have their manpages installed.

Could you please test the updated patch that is attached to this ticket. It appears to suppress the installation of su.1 for me. Chris, to see how we work around the checks that coreutils does to ensure man-pages are present for its binaries are suppressed, look for the 'grep -v' line in the patch :-)
