'passwd root' fails

Description
Upon completeing SVN-20070403, I enter the chroot env using the command found in chapter 6.4. Entering 'passwd root' runs through the entire process but does not stop to let me enter a password.
FWIW, I just built the stable book via jhalfs and 'passwd' from within chroot works fine.

Verified that passwd works as it should in chroot.
If this is in fact a valid problem, based on some other unseen circumstance, you should provide the error message you received and make the relevant build logs available somewhere.
