Description
There is a gcc-2.95.3-2.patch mentioned, which should solve a problem I ran into with 3.0-pre3, but this patch isn't included in the download locations, and isn't on ftp.gnu.org. Maybe gcc-3.0.1 will fix this too?

That gcc patch is a custom patch we ourselves maintain (that's why in appendix d it shows that it's official download location is the lfs ftp server, and not gnu.org or something like that).
gcc-3.x isn't good enough. It may have fixed the bug in gcc-2.95.3, but gcc-3.x is highly unrecommended at the moment. There's too much new code in it, and with it, too many bugs coming along. You may be able to compile an LFS system just fine with gcc-3.0.1, but when you start getting into software outside the LFS-Book, most notable C++ software, you will have a hard time with it.
So until GCC goes through a few more revisions we'll stick with 2.95.3.
