#2139 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Include archive file name in page headers

Description

I would recommend including the full name of the archive file needed for a particular step in the page header for any step which requires expanding the archive. If multiple archives are needed (source, patch, library) list all files on the same line. The required files would then be easily recognizable and the individual would be able to ensure that they have the proper files for that step of the build.

Example

Current: 5.3. Binutils-2.17 - Pass 1
Approximate build time: 1 SBU
Required disk space: 213 MB

Recommended: 5.3. Binutils-2.17 - Pass 1
Approximate build time: 1 SBU
Required disk space: 213 MB
Archive file(s): binutils-2.17.tar.bz2, ...other files if needed...

We do this in BLFS because that book does not assume that all packages in that book will be built.

In LFS, all packages are supposed to be built and it is far easier to download all the packages at once. There are separate pages in LFS where all the packages and all the patches are listed. There would be a lot of work needed to implement your suggestion and very little benefit.
