Description
We need to evaluate if that HOWTO is still relevant enough. It is mentioned in the "Audience" section of the Preface. This HOWTO was last updated almost nine years ago.
If it's no longer relevant we should replace it with other resources if they exist, remove the reference altogether, or at least put a note in the book regarding the fact it is quite dated.

This HOWTO used to build a mini-system but no longer. That portion has been separated into its own document. What is left are a number of exercises to familiarize yourself with some of the components.
A lot of that documents "For more information see..." URLs no longer work either.
I thin this document served its purpose but it's just too old to be truly useful. Sure, some of the information is still valid, but you can't do much with it on modern systems anymore. There likely exist better resources nowadays.
I'm removing this HOWTO reference altogether and create a new ticket to find resources to replace it with.
Not urgent to get done before 6.5.
