Revalidate need for patches and seds in Chapter 5

Description
In several cases, comments indicate the need for patches or seds to work around problems in the packages, but packages have changed. The need for these patches and seds should be revalidated before the next release:
- 5.10. GCC-4.4.0 - Pass 2
- 5.12. Expect-5.43.0
- 5.21. Gawk-3.1.6
- 5.24. Gzip-1.3.12
- 5.27. Patch-2.5.9
- 5.28. Perl-5.10.0

I've looks through the patches/seds and agree. Everything looks OK.

Expect, Gawk & Gzip confirmed.
Patch really doesn't need to be patched in chapter 5 as we know we don't use any mis-formatted patches that would trigger the bug. But, I seem to remember a while back that we decided to apply the same patches in chapters 5 & 6 for consistency if nothing else.
Perl - we could split the libc patch out from the rest of the bug fixes then just apply the libc patch, but then again if we do want to keep chapters 5 & 6 consistent, we may as well just keep things as they are.
All of GCC's patches/seds look reasonable to me, but I'd appreciate a toolchain bod to give that page the once over too.
