Udev-142 changelog tells the following:

Kay Sievers (46): udevd: at startup create /dev/null, /dev/console, /dev/kmsg

So, the static device nodes

  • /lib/udev/devices/null
  • /lib/udev/devices/kmsg

created during the udev installation may be removed.

I've made a quick test to ensure this.

  • /lib/udev/devices/kmsg : removing it seems to be harmless and udevd effectively creates it.
  • /lib/udev/devices/null :
    • /dev/null is effectively created by udevd,
    • However, as /dev/null is not present at udevd launch, some error messages get displayed on screen.

So this one may not be removed.
