Description
As reported by Michael Shell at http://linuxfromscratch.org/pipermail/blfs-support/2012-February/069431.html, Make-3.82 has a number of bugs that prevent dev86src and other packages beyond LFS from building. The patch at http://lists.crux.nu/pipermail/crux/2011-March/009482.html fixes those problems.

By BLFS I simply meant packages outside of LFS, not strictly those in the BLFS book. Given the nature of the bugs, it's certainly possible that folks may come across packages that trigger them. I realise that Dev86src is old and looks unmaintained, but that doesn't mean that a regression in Make should just be ignored. Bug 30723 (http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?30723), which the patch fixes, explicitly mentions Glibc, which is obviously LFS material. I realise we never hit that bug, but that's probably because we keep on top of upgrades which may have worked around/avoided that particular issue.

Your link is over 18 months old. If upstream thought it was that important, they would have released a new version. After all, it's take all that time for it to come up.
We cannot apply every patch checked into version control for every package.

Well, I can go either way on this one. I've added the patch to the patches repo, so I guess for the time being, if anyone asks through the support channels about the Dev86 issue or similar, we can just point them to it. If reports become more common, or more common packages start to hit these bugs, I think we could add an errata for the upcoming 7.1 release?

Since make-3.82 has been out about 18 months and this is the first problem we've run across, I'd say that it's reasonably stable as is.
Placing a note in errata is a reasonable compromise if an included BLFS package needs the patch, but I think that's unlikely.
Marking WONTFIX for now.
The package referenced is not in BLFS that I can see. It is a 16 year old package that appears to target x86 assembly only.
I recommend WONTFIX.
