I have this in here because it fails when it gets to:
checking for -z relro option... no configure: error: linker with -z relro support required

However, in the mean time, please verify that your host OS matches the pre-requisites listed in http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/prologue/hostreqs.html, in particular the version of Binutils you have installed on your host.
