It would APPEAR that the config file is in error, but I admit to being a newbie - as many LFS builders probably are (-:

Err, no. Most LFS builders should *not* be newbies. See http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/7.4/prologue/prerequisites.html.

Anyway, please take this issue to the lfs-support mailing list, where folks will be happy to help out. You'll also want to attach the output of 'make test' rather than the config.log file, I would have thought.

Regards,

Matt.

Thanks Matt,

The config.log was the farthest back that I detected something apparently out of place;

"gcc version 4.8.1 (GCC) configure:2118: $? = 0 configure:2120: gcc -V </dev/null >&5 gcc: error: unrecognized command line option '-V' gcc: fatal error: no input files compilation terminated.

So it SEEMS that a bad config was generated (seems to ME). I should probably have said that I regard myself as a newbie at building linux from scratch, though I am beyond simple point&click, drag&drop.
