Greg, I've just run into the following issue with the latest automake. It'll complain about underquoted macros in some 3rd party .m4 files (in /usr/share/aclocal). Examples include freetype, glib, gtk+, imlib, ogg... The output reads "warning: underquoted definition of [MACRO]". It is just a warning and is fully explained here: http://www.gnu.org/software/automake/manual/html_node/Extending-aclocal.html#Extending%20aclocal.

Is it worth making mention of it in the book, just in case users get worried during the BLFS phase, or is this something for the BLFS guys to deal with seeing as though no LFS packages are affected.

Matt.

It's just a warning that doesn't break anything? I don't think it's worth mentioning anywhere at all. It's already in TFM so that should be good enough IMHO. We already build packages with bazillions of compiler warnings so this is not much different. Feel free to notify the BLFS guys if you think it's warranted.
