I realized that I've been working in an environment built using a host parameter to the configure scripts, as in $ ./configure --prefix=/usr i386-pc-linux-gnu in order to build static packages that I could install on various older machines that don't have a Linux system already installed (it almost worked...) Rebuilding without that parameter makes the problem go away. I apologize for wasting everybody's time. I'm going to study more carefully how to do this cross-compilation thing properly.


So it appears the bug is invalid.
