Description

There was a link at lwn.net to a blog post about something else, and below it was an announcement that a new maintainer has joined the sysvinit team and has worked to merge fixes from distributions. At that time there was a notification that a beta existed.

The new site is ​https://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/sysvinit/ and sysvinit-2.89.tar.bz2 was released on the 28th.

This is interesting, but we will need to create a new patch for it. It still contains a lot to things we do not want to install. From the current patch:

  1. Remove programs superceeded by other packages: wall, mountpoint, last, lastb, mesg, sulogin, and utmpdump.

The other issues in the patch are addressed in the new version.
