cannot boot kernel compiled with devfs enabled

Description

I recently completed LFS using V4.1 book. Spent over a week trying to solve failure to boot problem. Please see: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78408 for details. I believe adding a note to NOT compile the kernel with devfs enabled, or to add: append="devfs=nomount" to lilo.conf is needed. Perhaps the average newcomer to LFS is knowlegable enough to already know this. For those of us to ignorant to know, this could save much time.

This is more of an issue that should be directed to the support lists - The book doesn't deal with devfs or no devfs at all - there are, however, hints on this subject.
