apparently this release gets rid of the need for the sed we currently use to change gawk-->mawk.. MSB got the change in:
From lfs-dev:
The man package has reached version 1.5j and it seems the maintainer applied my fix to make configure detect mawk which means we can get rid of the sed if we update to man-1.5j.

checked and put into book. the sed command is no longer necessary and has been removed from the book at the same time.

when man-1.5k (or whatever the next version is) comes out, check if we can now pass -confdir=/etc to move the man.conf location properly. (I sent the patch to the maintainer and I believe it's been applied)

Version increment. A copy was put in LFS FTP conglomeration.

When the update to man-1.5k is done, the instructions should be changed to:
PATH=$PATH:/usr/bin:/bin \
./configure -default -confdir=/etc &&
make && make install
i.e. add -confdir=/etc to configure and remove the mv man.conf command.

The 80 cols patch gets rejected. Looking at the source, it would appear to be fixed upstream now. Therefore I'm removing the patch instructions. If anyone encounters problems, let us know.

Is this considered a stable release? I couldn't see anything that stated a development vs. stable version exists, but looking at the changelog I see that bug fixes aren't the only changes in this release. Perhaps this is the development version?
I have emailed the new maintainer to get his take on it.

Archiving this email response: ================================= From: Federico Lucifredi <address-removed> Subject: Re: Release cycle of man
The developent cycle of man includes developemnt releases, which are labelled 'rc' (for instance, the development releases for 1.6 were 1.6-rc-1 and 1.6-rc-2, which later became 1.6 with minor changes).
Development versions are usually released only to a select few testers and the people who originated the patches, for Q&A testing.

Whoops! We're using man-db now, of course.
