This needs make configure-host to be run after the ./configure command and before the current make command in order to prevent the -all-static LDFLAGS from being passed directly to gcc which will cause the error described in the following thread: ​http://archive.linuxfromscratch.org/mail-archives/lfs- dev/2003/02/0691.html.

Version increment (2.16.90.0.1). The release notes at ​http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/devel/binutils/release.binutils-2.16.90.0.1 look like the kernel needs patching in order to work around some backward incompatible changes in this release.
