One thing that it took me several tries to get right is the monitor resolution part. Ended up copying it from a known working configuration on the host system. I still don't understand it fully, but it's on my list to come back to. At the moment I have a CRT and it kept wanting to default to the max resolution that it can run at, even though that's much too small for these old eyes.
Anything you could put in the book at that spot would be a help.

I will prepare a section about monitor characteristics, modelines and DDC.
This experimental patch may help with resolution problems. I hope that with it, the default resolution (without any "Modes") line should be acceptable for both CRTs and VGA-connected LCDs.

DPMS is another thing that people may want to configure almost immediately. I found this Linux Review article that is a detailed howto including special considerations for Nvidia. - Marty http://linuxreviews.org/howtos/power/xorg_dpms/

Fixed at revision 5914.
Added wiki pages for Display/Monitor Sections and Layout Section. Placed Alexander's patch in the Display/Monitor wiki page.
This section has been added though there are some entries that state "To Be Added". These should either filled in before release or commented out for the release.
