Description

I was using Falkon to get access to Microsoft Teams for viewing my schedule for the University of Illinois for the week (Firefox has issues with it because we're on ESR), and I noticed some peculiar behavior on my old development system.

I have to have Hardware Acceleration enabled for Teams to work correctly. It worked flawlessly on my last version (6.8.2), but for the incoming security advisory that I'll be filing I decided to upgrade it to 6.9.0.

Falkon now crashes with an abort:

renodr [ /sources ]$ falkon
Only --use-gl=angle is supported on this platform.

This appears to have been fixed by Arch already, but requires a patch. Here's the Arch bug report:

https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/qt6-webengine/-/issues/4

Which points to a KDE one:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=497691

which then points to the following commit:

https://invent.kde.org/network/falkon/-/commit/902e8c0279df4c02948dd6709e9a58b0ae3fa3f9

(which needs to be applied to Falkon)

The options that Falkon references in the above commit though are added to Qt with the following commit:

https://codereview.qt-project.org/c/qt/qtwebengine/+/634920

As a result we'll need to patch both Falkon and QtWebEngine to resolve the issue.

Here's the upstream Qt bug: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-133570

The commit was landed in the 6.9 branch *after* 6.9.0 was released.

The patch has been applied to Falkon, but the QtWebEngine side will still be needed. I'll be working on this later today

Falkon 25.04.0 no longer does it on my Intel system, but it does fail on my old development system. I'm going to see if the QtWebEngine patch fixes the issue on the old system, since that's essentially BLFS 12.3 with QtWebEngine 6.9 installed.

If it does we'll have users also update to Falkon 25.04.0 at the same time that they update QtWebEngine, as Falkon does not need any newer dependencies than what was in BLFS 12.3. This will make it so that only QtWebEngine needs to be patched.
