may be we should resist from upgrading atm because it seems so that it breaks animated gifs in firefox3. See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=628331 - I had exactly that issue here on my machine too. I tried cairo-1.10 but now downgraded to 1.8.10 and the anims are display proper again.

We can wait a week or two and see what happens. It must be a minor fix as the Cairo team claims 100% backwards compatibility. Not sure if that claim holds true for something not supported by Mozilla (at least I don't think animated gifs are supported). If they are supported, Mozilla will have a fix. If not, Fedora will probably have a patch.

Reading the RH and Mozilla bug trackers, it looks like it is being addressed in FireFox. There is activity today.
We regularly run into the same issues with gcc. When they tighten something up, older packages break. I agree that waiting will probably get the issue fixed.
