#643 closed defect (fixed)

compressdoc: long lines

Reported by: areiner@… Owned by: Randy McMurchy
Priority: lowest Milestone:
Component: BOOK Version: ~5.0
Severity: trivial Keywords:

Description

The compressdoc script has several lines far exceeding 80 characters, which may cause difficulties with linebreaking.

Specifically, I usually read the book in Lynx, use the `p'rint command to get a plain text version, edit out everything except shell commands, and feed the result to bash. On the console, however, lynx will introduce line breaks at around 80 characters, so that the script has to be corrected manually. (This should also affect those who use gpm to cut-and-paste from lynx.)

The fix is trivial: change the script to shorter lines only, as is the case throughout the LFS book.

Shorted line lengths and rendered a PDF file of the book. No lines exceed 80 chars in the source, and no lines extend beyond the limits of the current PDF format.
