Appears that it has calmed down. Last release was almost 2 months ago. Suggest the same approach at handling this package updates like I suggested for Mesa:

Agree that it has calmed down. I put this version in my latest build, I've now managed to print (some oddity in gutenprint - my expected Epson driver doesn't show up in cups, but is listed /usr/lib/cups/driver/gutenprint.5.2 list |grep 'escp2-r3'by

So something funny in my current build of gutenprint, but following help from Robert Krawitz I've got a differently named epson driver working (same driver except for the name). I think I had a similar problem in September 2011 (LFS-6.8). No issues with cups-filters itself.
Now 1.17.9
