Oh and BTW, someone made a patch to fix the -e argument for file.

Is there a reference for this -e argument patch? The comment is pretty thin on details.

I'm still waiting to be "approved" to contribute to the File mailing list.

It appears that the -e switch is not "broken". It is the way the maintainer wants it to be. I'll update to the most recent version, but sed the man page so that there will be no confusion about what the -e switch is capable of.

Updated LFS to File-4.26.

Added a sed command to modify the man page to reflect the current status of the -e parameter.
