#269 closed defect (fixed)

redundant (or needs rephrasing) text in chapter5/proc.xml

Reported by: markh@… Owned by: gerard@…
Priority: highest Milestone:
Component: Book Version: CVS
Severity: normal Keywords:

Description

In chapter5/proc.xml

"It's not a problem to mount the proc file system twice or even more than that, since it's a virtual file system maintained by the kernel itself."

These days any filesystem can be mounted more than once. Maybe replace with something like:

"It's not a problem to mount the proc (or indeed any other) file system twice or even more than that as required."

I believed

"since it's a virtual file system maintained by the kernel itself."

was the confusing part, but it's still there. Or am I missing something? :)

I thought the point was that the old text implied that only proc can be mounted twice (which isn't true anymore, you can mount anything more than once nowadays)

I don't agree with the fact that "since it's a virtual file system maintained by the kernel itself." has been left in. IMO we should just remove this and it'll make a lot more sense.

(NB: If when doing QA you don't agree that something has been fixed, do you reopen it?)

Normally I'd say yes, reopen and go through the normal 'life cycle'. But this is such a minor thing, so just go and fix it, then close this bug

fixed. closing.
