find out what distro's kernel and/or fileutils combination require the current gzip's cp+rm approach

Description

As with Bug #278 if those distribution versions prove to be quite old, we may just remove it as I don't think too many people would use such old versions anymore.

I was going to test it on redhat 5.2 but I don't have that cd at home at the moment. Postponing for later.

Old distributions deemed unusable to build and LFS system with. Assuming a modern starting distribution is used, the cp+rm may be removed then. Shouldn't be hard to figure out: try from an LFS-3.x system, and from a recent Redhat or Mandrake system.
